Why we built it
We've all been there — eight people at a restaurant, nobody agrees on how to split the appetizers, someone leaves early, and the rest of the table spends longer dividing the bill than they spent on dessert.
The math isn't the hard part. The UX is. Existing tools were either too simple (split evenly or nothing) or too complex (full accounting software nobody wanted to learn at a dinner table). We wanted something that handled real-world messiness: uneven splits, who-ordered-what, partial payments, and group IOUs — without requiring a tutorial.
What we built

- Fair uneven splits — handle different items, custom amounts, and partial contributions without friction.
- Group expense tracking — keep running tabs across multiple outings so nothing gets forgotten.
- Clean, mobile-first UX — designed to be used standing at a restaurant, not sitting at a desk.
The design challenge
The hardest part wasn't the math — it was making every edge case feel effortless. Late arrivals. Someone who only had a starter. A shared bottle of wine. Tax and tip. We went through a dozen UX iterations before landing on flows that handle all of it without making the simple case feel complicated.
The principle we kept coming back to: the app should feel dumber than it actually is.
